This Privacy Policy explains how Drivefile collects, uses, stores, and protects information when you use the Drivefile desktop application, website, web dashboard, mobile apps, cloud sync, and workspace features.
Drivefile is designed to help you index, search, and manage external drives without unnecessarily exposing your files or private data. Our core principle is simple: your files remain yours, and Drivefile does not copy, sell, or access your file contents unless you choose to use features that require syncing selected metadata or previews.
Drivefile is provided by Drivefile.
For the purposes of this Privacy Policy, "Drivefile", "we", "us", or "our" refers to the provider of the Drivefile application and related services.
Drivefile helps you scan external drives and create a searchable catalog of your files and folders. This allows you to find files, folders, projects, assets, and drive locations even when the original drive is unplugged.
Drivefile may be used as:
When you scan a drive using the Drivefile desktop app, Drivefile reads file and folder metadata so it can build a searchable catalog.
This may include:
Drivefile does not need to copy your original files in order to index them. Unless you enable cloud sync, workspace sync, export features, or another connected feature, this scan data is stored locally on your device.
Drivefile is designed to catalog and search file metadata. We do not sell, rent, or intentionally access your personal file contents.
The standard Drivefile scan does not upload your original files to Drivefile servers.
Depending on the features you use, Drivefile may generate local thumbnails, previews, or lightweight visual references for certain file types. These are used to help you recognize files more easily inside Drivefile.
If you enable cloud sync or workspace sync, certain metadata and preview assets may be uploaded so they can be accessed from your other devices, the web dashboard, mobile apps, or shared workspace members.
Drivefile stores local catalog data on the device where the desktop app is installed.
This local data may include:
You can remove local Drivefile data by uninstalling the app and deleting associated application data from your device. The exact location of this data may vary depending on whether you use macOS, Windows, or Linux.
Drivefile may offer optional cloud features, including Drivefile Cloud and Drivefile Workspaces.
If you choose to enable cloud sync or join a workspace, Drivefile may upload selected catalog information to our cloud systems so that your indexed drive information can be searched and viewed across authorized devices and users.
This may include:
Cloud sync is designed to make your drive catalog available across the Drivefile web dashboard, mobile apps, and authorized workspace users. Drivefile Cloud and Workspaces do not upload your original files unless a future feature clearly states that file upload, backup, or storage is being enabled by you.
If you use Drivefile as part of a team, agency, company, or workspace, some of your catalog data may be visible to other authorized workspace members depending on your workspace settings and permissions.
Workspace administrators may be able to:
You should only sync drive catalogs to a workspace if you are authorized to share that information with the workspace.
When you create a Drivefile account, purchase a license, start a trial, subscribe to a plan, or use cloud features, we may collect account information such as:
